Bears play @ Baltimore Summer Kickoff Report –by David Huberman

On the weekend of June 17th, a Landon team comprised of 3 freshmen, 7 sophomores, 12 juniors and 11 seniors played in the Baltimore Summer Kickoff. Assistant Coach, JR Bordley, described the Baltimore Summer Kickoff as a way “to allow the coaches to evaluate young players in the program. It is a tune up before the National High School Lacrosse Showcase.” The Bears fought hard in all five games, finishing with a 2-3 record in a difficult 2018 Division.

Highlights from the tournament include a big win against Evolve Elite Canada 2018, a game that Landon dominated with big performances by Joey Graham, Gavin Seasholes and Brett Gallagher. The boys finished the first day with a 1-2. The Bears came out firing on all cylinders against the Alcatraz Outlaws in a dominant win. With big performances from Joey Graham, Mitch Laughlin, Jacob Solomon, and faceoff men, Will Bou and Kyle Amitay. Charles Nagel also had a solid weekend, proving that he can finish from inside. All 3 freshmen — Matt Brille, Jake Cohen and Teddy Bou –proved that they could hang with the “big boys” and did not falter under pressure.

The Bears finished the tournament with a total of four all stars; Goalie, Mitch Laughlin, Midfielder, Austen Schneider, Midfielder, Garrett Kurtz, and Attackman, Joey Graham. Joey Graham was named the team MVP after a stellar performance all weekend long.

Although the Bears did not finish with a memorable record, they  hope to rebound during the National High School Lacrosse Showcase when their starters return —  and will be reinforced by some newcomers who stood out during the Baltimore Summer Kickoff.
