Landon Hockey 6 St. Paul’s 4

Hockey in Maryland in 2017 has been unpredictable. In MAPHL and the IAC, there are wins and losses which are difficult to explain (i.e. St. Albans lost to St. John’s2-3 tonight). The boys from Brooklandville beat Calvert Hall, beat Mt. St. Joe’s and lost to Spaulding). The Crusaders have a 5-6-2 record.

The visiting team arrived at the Bears’ Den ready to play and after 0:21 expired scored from a point blank distance. The Argentinian Assassin,  a/k/a Nico Kenary, decided to rectify this deficit, skated up his off wing, cranked a shot and hit the pipe for a goal @ 14:19. Six minutes later a visitor replied with an on-target shot at 8:10.

Ty Morton made 6 saves over this 17 minute period and the Bear O put 9 SOGs

END OF 1ST PERIOD CRUSADERS 2 BEARS 1

The 2nd period started inauspiciously with another shot just beyond the blue ice crease at 16:42.

The Bears PK team denied SPS’ powerplay for two minutes, but the Crusaders racked up their 4th and last goal at 4:01.

The Bears caught fire in the last minute. It began @0:58.6 when Nico connected with Spencer Davis for a goal. The puck dropped again at center ice and Landon moved it quickly into their O zone. Four successive Bear shots over the next 0:30 resulted in Goal #4 @ 0:21.5 by Owen Concannon and assists to Jake Davidson and the Argentinian Assassin!

Ty and Max Weinstein stopped 7 shots and their buddies peppered the opposing netminder with 20 shots

END OF 2nd PERIOD CRUSADERS 4 BEARS 3

The last minute’s momentum “matriculated” into the last segment of this match.

A great pass from Chase Blazer sent Nico in alone on the SPS man in the crease and the Assassin deked the Brooklandville boy out for the tying goal @ 12:36. The Crusaders did not relent, they worked hard on a PP from 5:39 to 3:39. During that advantage they tested Ty’s skills with a point blank shot by the Bear goal protector made a great save at 3:52.  With the sands rapidly sifting out of the electric time clock, the Bears did not panic—a pass from Ethan Weinstein connected with Jake who moved it to Jack Jarrett whose blast from the point (with an intermediate tip by a visitor) hit the net for a goal @ 1:59.

As soon as the next face-off resulted in an SPS possession, their coach pulled his goalie. Chase stole the puck and moved it to Ryan Giles. The freshman forward passed to the senior Captain Cole Gibson who propelled it the final 10’ for an EN goal @ 0:29.5.

3rd period Max had 10 saves (total 23) and the Landon O had 13 SOGs (total 43)
