Landon Hockey 3 O’Connell 0

The Knights were ranked #10 (down from #5) by WaPO and their 5-3-1 record includes wins over St. Mary’s Ryken, Bullis, Spaulding, St. John’s and Good Counsel. Bishop DJO tied StA 3-3, while its L’s were against the Cadets and two against Gonzaga.

The first period saw both teams fly around the rink and the Knights trying to establish a physical tempo. However, Cole Gibson blew down the right boards, unencumbered by an opponent, took a hard shot and its power overwhelmed the Knight’s goalie and blasted into the back of his net @ 15:12 of the first period.

The evenness of this first 17 minutes was demonstrated by the Bears 10 Shots on Goal and Ty Morton’s 9 saves.

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 1 KNIGHTS 0

The refs called a 5 minute major against the Knights and the home team converted with a PP goal @ 6:29—tally by Owen Concannon, assists by Cole and Chris Morris.

@2:46, five-on-five, a pass from Nico Kenary to Jack Jarrett was shot by the D man from the blue line. As the puck approached the O’Connell goal, its path was redirected by brother Will Jarrett and thus beat the Knight goalie.

Ty stopped 8 Bishop DJO shots during this 17 minute segment and the Bears put 19 SOGs.

END OF 2ND PERIOD BEARS 3 KIGHTS 0

The visitors incurred 3 two minute penalties (one was a coincidental minor) over this last stanza. The Bears moved the puck well and played good positional hockey. The home team frustrated the DJO O and held them to few shots—Ty had only 5 saves. The home team O put up 8 SOGs.

FINAL SCORE BEARS 4 KNIGHTS 0

On Friday Landon travels to Laurel to meet #1 DeMatha (15-3-1) at 5:20pm.
