TENNIS

From Coach Miller

The tennis team stands at 5-4.Though in this year’s results may be considered disappointing compared to the Bears’ stellar history; the roster includes 4members of the Class of 2017; so the Bears have a bright future.

We have lost to all the good teams and beaten all of the teams that were not as good. St Albans won the IAC and we lost a nailbiter 3-4 to them. We concluded the regular season with another 3-4 loss to Bullis. The IAC tournament begins on Tuesday and we will host Bullis for a chance to get another shot at STA. The team is led by 2 freshmen at the top of the ladder Sachin Das and Rodrigo Garcia. Sachin is nationally ranked and has already established himself as one of the best in a program that has a long list of great players. Rodrigo is ranked in the Mid Atlantic and has held down the #2 spot admirably.

After them, the strongest part of our team is probably #1 doubles pair of Henry Smith (senior) and Dilan Prasad. They were finalists at the Woodberry Invitational and they are a win for us pretty much every match.

Versus Bullis, we won at #4 singles, #1 doubles and #3 doubles. The final match on was #2 doubles (Will Sears, Nate Smith) who lost 6-4 in the third set.

Chris Hudnut wins Colby’s Highest award for male athletes

Colby basketball player Chris Hudnut (Chevy Chase, Md.) was awarded the Ellsworth Millett Award for the men at the Colby Senior Awards Presentation. At the team banquet, he received his 4th consecutive MVP award.

Hudnut finished his basketball career ranked 11th all-time in scoring with 1,403 points and added 643 rebounds. He likely would have had more than 1,500 points, but missed about 10 games due to injury. Hudnut was a two-time All-NESCAC selection and was having his best statistical season when he missed.
