Landon Lacrosse 8 StA 5

Before the game started, St. Albans and Landon jointly remembered the death of Noah Eig at the May 18, 1991 game. A storm quickly blew over the National Cathedral, the referees stopped the game and lightning struck a tree under which Noah and others sought shelter. Despite immediate medical help from a Landon father and ER doctor, the bolt of electricity killed the young boy instantaneously. At the ceremony it was announced that a memorial plaque will be reinstalled (the construction of the new athletic complex required its temporary removal). Three Bears sang “Landon Forever” in remembrance. It was a very thoughtful and touching ceremony by the hosts.

The Bulldogs roster is young, but it is led by a talented goalie (16 saves with 24 on goal and 42 in total) that will be playing for the Bulldogs of New Haven in the future. Landon’s squad did not include a number of injured players; so the rule “next man up” was issued by the coaches.

The first period was primarily played in the home team’s D zone and there their netminder showed his ability—stopping a number of shots. On the Bears’ first EMO opportunity, Griffin Brown passed to Colin O’Brien for a goal @6:40.  StA matched that tally with their goal at 3:25.

END OF 1ST QUARTER LANDON 1 StA 1

StA took the lead with a goal at 11:11. A nice pass from Drennan Greene from behind goal to Griffin B, who was streaking past his defender towards the 6’ x 6’ surface, broke the plane and ripped the nets for L goal #2 @10:17.

The Bulldogs replied at 7:15, but the Bears replied with a John Geppert pass to Drennan for L goal @2:34.

HALFTIME LANDON 3 StA 3

The Bear pattern of taking the momentum after the intermission adjustments was not followed in this game. Not until late in the twelve minute clock, there was some action. It began on a fast break with a pass from Will Oliver to Zach Johnson, who beat his former teammate with a goal @3:49. An EMO score by StA at 1:14 was aided by its EMO opportunity.

With the stern determination that fans have come to expect, Drennan drove from a behind wing and scored a goal @0:23.3

END OF 3RD QUARTER LANDON 5 StA 4

Joey Epstein took over the Bear O and scored three consecutive goals. The first was tallied after the StA defenseman pushed Joey to the ground and from that position, he beat the Bulldog goalie @9:59. Landon’s 7th score occurred when he got his opponent hung up in front of the StA goal. He outmaneuvered them both and put the ball in the corner @ 5:10.  His last one was the end result of a fast break; #1 got the ball, beat the Bulldog and deposited the ball in the opponent’s nets @ 4:40.

The Bulldogs scored again at 4:29.
