The Bears have played the Greyhounds consistently for more years than other MIAA teams and the competition qualifies as a rivalry. Both teams look at this early matchup as a measuring stick for the season. Landon traveled up to Roland Park and won 12-8, continuing a victory streak back to 2014 ( L10 G 8 [‘14]; L11 G4 [‘15]) . It was the home team’s 1st game of the season. Play was somewhat sloppy, but the visitors controlled the GBs 32 to 7 and the X (19/23).  The D and Goalie Shane Corcoran (10 saves) were solid, particularly for the third period shut out.

For the third time in its first four games, the Bears were 1st in scoring due to Mr. Instant Offense( IO) Justin Shockey (17 /20 for the game) beat the ‘Hounds X man cleanly and sprinted down the field to score @ 11:54. Gilman replied with two quick goals at 10:24 and then at 9:13.

The brown-jerseyed team replied with a three score run: Joey Epstein saw a lane to the Gilman defense and passed to Ryan Pride with goal #2 @ 8:76; on the ensuing faceoff IO got possession and connected with Joey who nailed the corner @8:19; then John Geppert (or OMC) flew down the field and connected with Joey .

The “Hounds replied with a pair of goals at 2:51 and then 0:04.1

The start of the next quarter was like the first few seconds of the initial 12 minutes—IO got the ball at the faceoff, passed it to Will Powell and identified Joey as a good shooter. #1 made good on Will’s pass with a goal @ 11:46.

The home team responded with a single tally at 9:57 to tie it up for the last time.

Landon had a pair of goals: Drennan Greene from Ryan @ 5:07 and then Ryan fed John Geppert @ 2:33.

To close the half, the ‘Hounds got their 5th goal with 0:24 remaining.

The halftime adjustments must have worked for the Bear D shut out the Gilman O for the next 18 minutes (3rf into 4th Q). Shane made some of his best saves of the early season.

To add to the advantage, Joey passed the ball to Griffin Brown for a score @9:13.  Soon thereafter, Brian Menendez cleared the ball form the D zone, charged into the other half of the field and blasted a shot past the ‘Hound netminder @8:27. Griffin sprinted down an alley and as his angle narrowed, nailed the far corner @ 2:37.

Early possession during this last frame resulted in the slimmer, faster Joey (4G 2A for the game) beating his man from behind to score @ 10:56.

In what must be the only Baltimore lax Nike brand uniforms, the home team recorded its 1st goal in 18 minutes at 6:14.

With 3:24 remaining, Ryan (2G 3A for the game) scored the dozenth  Bear point @3:24. GS responded with the final goal at 3:08.
