Landon Lacrosse 9 John Carroll Ø

Please do not email me; the score is no typographical error.

The same Patriot team that scored 11 goals in a loss to Boys Latin (with one of the top goalies in Baltimore and three Div. I D’men), scored no goals and saw all 9 of the Patriots’ SoGs stopped. The Bears Defense was stout and the Home O showed an ability to move the ball well. At both ends of the field Landon was resolute in getting all ground balls.

[The last Landon shut out was 15-Ø against Middleburg Academy in 2013 (Sells, Murty and Bauer in net). Back in 2012, consecutive Øs were posted by the Bears against StA 4-Ø (Joyce in nets)  and Paul VI 8-Ø (Joyce, Prutting, Murty).]

It was a good 9-0 victory and Coach Bordley & staff gave the younger players lots of experience against a good John Carroll team. That seasoning will deliver benefits later this season and for years to come.

“Instant Offense” (stir at X and score) Justin Shockey won the faceoff and immediately scored @11:54 [2 out of 3 games; IO has opened with a win and a goal]. Soon thereafter, Griffin Brown showed his marksmanship by drilling a corner on the run about 9-11yards @ 11:08.

The Bear D smothered the Patriots for the 2-3 times the visitors got the ball into their O zone. The Landon ride was very effective. There were only 1-2 SoG during the first 24 minutes.

END OF 1ST QUARTER BEARS 2 PATRIOTS Ø

The second period started with an EMO situation (thanks to a F/O violation drawn by IO) and this was a pretty goal. A pass by Will Oliver threaded through the Carroll close D and found Colin O’Brien, who showed some athletic ability by quick sticking it for a goal @ 11:51.  Griffin B again exhibited an ability to hit the net with a goal @ 9:21. Zach Johnson followed suit with another goal from the midfield @ 6:18.

HALFTIME BEARS 5 PATRIOTS Ø

The next 12 minutes highlighted the Bears EMO, First @8:08 Will O  assisted on a goal by Ryan Pride, who had passed the point where he could shoot with the front of his stick; so he backhanded it in for Bears’ goal #6 6:53. As this period came to an end, the referees called a third penalty on the Patriots and this time, a pass from behind goal by Ryan was caught and shot by Griffin B @ 1:31.

END OF 3rd QUARTER BEARS 8 PATRIOTS Ø

This last period saw a major change in the players on the field with no lowering of the Bearformance (another neologism? For those without a big dictionary, here’s a link to its definition.). The second brigade did not allow the Patriots to make a successful clear, were equally aggressive getting GBs and the new D continued the shutout. Paul Kern stopped all 4 shots he saw. Sean Feldman scored @ 1:30 for goal #10.The following (in numerical order) continued the home control: Gilbert Sentimore (who played earlier), Chase Christensen, Brett Gallagher, Sean, Tommy Shull, Michael Abizaid, Brendon Gallagher, Own Concannon, Colby Camalier, and Garrett Kurtz.

FINAL SCORE BEARS 9 PATRIOTS Ø
