The Landon hosted the Cavaliers at the Bears’ Den in a crucial MAPHL game. AS came to Rockville with a respectable loss to Gonzaga and ties against StA and GP. Beating the home team would move the Severn school up in the standings and a win for the Bears would reinforce their position in the league standings as they head for the playoffs. The home team earned a convincing win.

For the first five minutes, the Red Clad team was flying over the rink, keeping the Bears in their D zone. Either the Coach Farnstrom reminded his charges of the breakout play or revised the pattern to avoid the AS checkers. The next few minutes the home team was able to control the puck in their O zone.

The change in possession time inured to the Bears’ benefit. With 6:36 remaining in the 1st period, the puck moved from Cole Gibson who in turn got it to Spencer Davis and he cleverly got it to Patrick Giles who buried it for the Bears #1 goal.

What was truly impressive in this period was that after the Cavaliers put a few shots on goal in from 17:00 to 14:00, the Bear D kept their opponents from putting an SoG for the time down to 0:00.

With less than a minute remaining, Patrick shot the puck, Spencer controlled it and Mike Soraci made the best of the opportunity with a goal @ 0:52.6.

AS asserted itself at the beginning of the period as it had in the initial stanza and scored at 14:17.

A Cavalier violated the rules and was sent to the penalty box. The Bears’ PP team worked its magic. The puck moved D (Patrick) to D (Brian Jordan; the senior D made a pass worthy of Evgeny Kuznetsov, threaded the AS defense and put the puck on the tape of Mike for a goal @ 9:16. Soon afterwards, Henry Chiperfield moved the puck to Brian who sent it goalward where the Argentinian Assassin Nico Kenary made a spectacular tip right past the helpless AS goalie @ 8:01.

A major penalty was called against the Cavaliers giving the home team a 5 minute powerplay. Another impressive goal was recorded @ 4:51; this one was a return favor from Mike to Brian. The D-man roofed the puck.

The Kuznetsov Konnection worked again with the same two seniors. Number 21 made another incredible pass to Number 6 through the phalanx of AS defenders FOR GOAL #6 @ 3:24. Mike should have been showered with chapeaux in celebration of his 3rd goal of the night.

Coach Farnstrom used the last 17 minutes to add to the experience of the roster. Against the Cavaliers’ top lines, younger Bears skated to test their speed, skills and physical abilities. Another penalty against Spaulding brought some of the regulars back on the ice. Patrick (his 3rd assist and 4th point) passed the biscuit to Brian who registered his 2nd goal and 5th point) @ 5:15.

The visitors scored 2 PP goals (at 4:35 and 0:29.3)during a Landon 5 minute penalty.
