Landon Hockey 4 Gonzaga 7

The boys from North Capitol Street chanted repeatedly that “God is Purple”. By the end of the game, the notion that some higher power was involved in the outcome created some credibility that the cheer seemed to be prescient. Landon played well and was leading 4-2 after 34 minutes. As the kids might utter, “I’m just saying.” The Purple Eagles were 12-4-3 with a goal differential of +48 in those previous 19 games.

Both teams came out flying; great skating and passing were evident in the early play. With 7:41 remaining in the period, a home team player was called for a penalty, in a VERY physical period, and soon thereafter the Bears converted on this power play. The score was initiated by Patrick Gilles, moved to Aditya Krishan and deposited in the goal by Hayes Cusick @ 6:22. Gonzaga responded with a breakaway goal at 5:30

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 1 PURPLE EAGLES 1

Landon was whistled for its 1st penalty and the home team scored on a nice play at 12:51.

The first even strength goal initiated by Patrick Gilles who moved the puck to Drew Wellington who shot and as the black sphere moved toward the goal, the good hand/eye coordination of Spencer Davis altered the trajectory for a goal @ 11:34. The visitors were able to prevent the Purple Eagles from tallying on another man advantage.

@6:09 Chase Blazer passed the puck to Patrick who cut past the GCHS goal on the right side, continued behind the nets, curled out to the left and increased his angle to spot the puck in the upper right corner to make its L2 G2.

Landon and Gonzaga saw players simultaneously go to the penalty boxes after a scrum in which L goalie Jack Concannon (21 saves for the night) had his helmet removed.

In a line change, the home team was detected as having too many skaters on the ice. The Bears moved the puck crisply from Aditya to Brian Jordan, who cranked up a heavy shot, and the puck was redirected by Cole Gibson into the goal @0:46.1.

END OF 2nd PERIOD BEARS 4 PURPLE EAGLES 2

The invocation of Purple Power was evident in the final 17 minutes. Simple fact: Landon drew 10 minutes of penalties and the Eagles none. The last two home team goals were even strength.
