The Bears’ second MAPHL match was against a team entering the league’s AA division. In a poll of MAPHL coaches, GC was predicted to finish last among the twelve teams. The MAPHL website indicates that the team from Olney tied the team from Rockville Pike 3-3. The GP team is otherwise 3-1-1. The visitors have a roster which includes some significant talent; so the game was far from a lock.

Historically, Landon has played down to teams which are not as deep. Some past stars have worked on their dangle moves and Coach Farnstrom’s disciplined positioning has been overlooked in games like this.

Injuries and conflicts reduced the Bear roster by four; so the depth of the home team received significant playing time. The newer and younger players played well.

Only 0:16 into the first stanza, Michael Soraci found Hayes Cusick on the GC goal crease for Landon’s initial tally @16:44. Soon thereafter the Argentinian Assassin Nico Kenary beat his Falcon D and swooped in for a goal @14:23. Hayes caught a pass from Aditya Krishnan and #7 buried for the Bears 3rd score @ 9:35. Don’t know what the Cusick musical talent is, but he rang this shot off the goal post for a perfect G 3.

Hayes (#3point of the game) showed his passing talent by moving the puck to Captain Michael, who demonstrated his shooting talent, with a shot to the far corner (last game he nailed a shot into a 3” corner on the near side) @ 4:20. A minute later Hayes continued his feeding frenzy with a pass to the Argentinian Assassin for his 2nd goal @ 3:15.

The home team successfully dealt with a penalty and soon thereafter, Drennan Greene broke into the Bear O zone and put the puck into the Falcon goal in an unstoppable corner. Michael registered his second goal (3rd point) @ 12:13 on a nice breakaway.

END OF 2nd PERIOD BEARS 7 FALCONS 0 {L SOG 13/32, L Saves 12/23}

After making his 23 saves, Jack “Holtby” Concannon watched Tommy Mottur enter the nets for the Bears during the remaining 17 minutes.

Drennan fed Cole Gibson for Landon’s 8th goal @8:44. The future Black Knight forward used his foot/eye coordination to get the puck over to the junior.

The Falcons scored at 4:10 and 2:44 (the second goal was a PP conversion).

FINAL SCORE BEARS 8 FALCONS 2 {L SOG 4/36, L Saves 4/28}

This game saw a number of players to get significantly more PT than ordinarily they would. Spencer Davis, Owen Concannon, Hayes Cusick, Chase Blazer, Chris Morris, Henry Chiperfield, and Logan Giles were skating against the GC top lines and showed that they could deal with the pressure. Typically, as the season progress Coaches Farnstrom, Weiss and Anas have to rely on depth. Injuries and other issues make the third line and fifth/sixth D more important. This game was a great opportunity for these Bears to shine; they did.

On the 15th the Bears will play their neighbors, the Vikings of WWHS, in a non-league game at the Bears’ Den.
