2015THE CLASS OF 2015 PLAYERS AND PARENTS

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs came to Bordley Stadium for Seniors’ Day; the Bear Class of 2015 scored 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists), manned the close defense and occupied the goal. At the end of the 1st quarter the home team in front of an Azalea Festival crowd was enjoying a 7-0 lead. At half the score was 12-2. For much of the game Coach Bordley got to see some of the prospects on his roster.

Unlike many recent games, the Landon squad came out firing. After 1:04 of the game, Luke Kurtz (’15) fed Griffin Brown for the 1st goal. Less than 50 seconds later, Kennedy Dunn (’15) found Vinnie Steis (’15) for goal #2. Nate Buller showed his jets with a speed dodge to score @7:03. Lighting struck again on a fast break with Rob Adkins (’15) @ 6:23. A StA turnover put the ball in Nate’s stick and he took a straight line to the opponent’s goal and passed all of the defenders—result was goal #6 @ 3:04. To end the period, Drennan Greene beat the Bulldog goalie @0:50.4

END OF 1ST QUARTER—BEARS 7 BULLDOGS 0

The Bears scored before 45 seconds had clicked off the clack, when Rob (’15) passed to Kennedy (’15) whose new shooting coach (who also doubles as a writer for the blog when the usual scribe was out of town) instructed the future Bantam to set his feet when shooting; the result was the first of three heavy shots for goals. A bounce shot hit the corner of the StA goal @ 10:22. The next time that Kennedy (’15) cradled the ball, it was on a fast break (i.e. he zoomed past the Bulldog middies) and again using his new technique to score @6:37. The Bulldogs were flagged for a technical foul; the Bears briskly moved the ball with the ball being received by Griffin who got the ball to a cutting Joey Epstein for a sweet EMO goal @ 4:46.

The game clock showed that almost 22 minutes had passed and the Bulldogs got their first goal at 2:29. Kennedy (’15) earned his hat trick @ 1:11. The visitors scored at 0:26.6.

HALFTIME—BEARS 12 BULLDOGS 2

Ball possession was not as sharp in the next period. Colton Rupp (’15) tallied goal #13 @ 9:41. After Landon was assessed three penalties,     the Bulldogs scored at 5:58.

END OF 3RD QUARTER BEARS 13 BULLDOGS 3

A penalty against the visitors was called during the last seconds of the last quarter; so a John Geppert to Colin O’Brien goal was the result @ 11:43. Cheers were heard from the StA fans as their players scored four consecutive goals.

KHARI BATEN “THAT’S A BEAR” AWARD

As mentioned above, Kennedy Dunn had an excellent offensive day today. The “That’s a Bear” Award for this senior actually recognizes all of the important “little things” which he has done well in all of the 18 previous games—playing solid D, passing and positioning well on offense to make sure that the O play worked, one man clears, abundant ground balls, coaching his teammates on and off the field, forcing turnovers at crucial moments and always keeping his attitude positive. Coach and player Baten appreciated those attributes and would recognize that Kennedy contributes to team success. Today, he had the hot hand and put up four points. More to come!!!
