Landon Lacrosse 13 Dallas Jesuit 3

The Rangers of Dallas Jesuit is considered one of the top lacrosse programs in Texas; the 73 year old high school has a student body of 1,000 boys. They have reached the state final four for the last five years and played in the championship game in 2014. Their roster includes three commits to major college teams. They have five games under their belt including two DMV teams. The Bears have had one or two full field practices.

The Bears and the DJ played in a constant rain, but the moisture did not affect the home team’s stick work. The ball moved quickly and created many opportunities. Soon after the opening whistle, the visitors were called for a technical foul. The Landon EMO moved the ball to their senior attackman and Colton Rupp dodged his Ranger defender to blast a goal @ 11:02. Soon thereafter Kennedy Dunn, a senior middie, tallied the Bears’ 2nd goal @ 10:29.

The ball moved up and down the field; however once in their O zone, the Rangers were frustrated by a swarming Bear D. Several good DJ looks were stopped by senior goalie, Hunter Sells (8 saves). Rupper decided to create greater separation from the opposition by scoring back-to-back goals @ 5:43 and @ 4:26 [note; his defender is one of the recruited players on the DJ squad).

The Bear offense used its passing skills for their 5th goal as sophomore Ryan Pride moved the ball to sophomore Colin O’Brien who scored @ 0:11.1.

END OF 1ST QUARTER BEARS 5 RANGERS 0

Coach Bordley started mixing some of his younger players (9 from 2017 and 2 from 2018 classes listed on the roster) onto the field with veterans. The next goal started with a pass from senior Rob Adkins to sophomore Will Powell @ 8:37. Then Colton added his 4th goal @ 7:06. Sophomore Nate Buhler showed his peripheral vision and found Freshman Joey Epstein who scored @ 6:41. Colton racked up another goal @ 1:01.

HALFTIME BEARS 9 RANGERS 0

DJ scored its first goal at 8:33 of the third period ending a 26 minute shut out. (Bears’ goalies sophomore Paul Kern and Junior Kyle Grafmeyer were in the nets for the remainder of the game). Joey found Colin @ 5:43 for a nice goal and soon thereafter Joey beat the DJ goalie for a solo score.
