BEARS HOCKEY 5 LITTLE HOYAS 4

Thanks to multiple reporters, here is more information about Landon’s win at the Bears’ Den against Georgetown Prep.

As much as the boys must be pleased about this win (earning the regular season IAC title, but subject to the outcome of the League tournament), they are clearly more proud by their (and other Bears’) performance earning over $40,000 for Children’s Hospital Cancer Research through Be Brave and Shave !!

It was an up-tempo and physical game, with the Bears the more assertive of the two.  The downside to such was that Landon players had five visits to the PB while Prep only had one.  But unlike the first game with Prep, the Little Hoyas seemed to shake off Landon’s aggressiveness with greater aplomb.

Prep was resilient; Landon led 1-0, then 2-1, then 3-2, then 4-3 — and when Prep tied the game at 4-4 with Landon still being a man down, it was high-anxiety time.  But we notched a goal with 2:20 left, and held on to win despite Prep playing six skaters for the last 1:30.

The first period appears to have been one of those tactical exercises where both teams probed to find the opponents’ weaknesses and scheme. Early in that period, Tommy Crittenberger assisted on a Michael Soraci goal @ 11:55

Given an advantage through a Power Play, GP tied it up at 11:46. Landon beat the opposing goalie with Drennan Greene and Matt Wellington assisted Jones for the Bears’ 4th goal @ 11:07. Another Little Hoyas’ powerplay resulted in the tying goal at 4:04. With the game on the line, Michael assisted on Patrick Giles “hair-raisingly” exciting goal @ 2:07.

Jack Concannon and the defense men plus the back-checking forwards held off the Little Hoyas intense pressure for the win.
