The Bears lost to the SSSA and StA, but beat Trinity Christian 69-42.

Varsity Hockey 

The Bears had 3 games deferred until later due to weather and then lost a very tight game to #1 Gonzaga.

The Terps are competing for Keith Simms’ signature on a National Letter of Intent; so much so that SB Nation’s Testudo Times ran a long piece on the Big Bear.

Bear Hoops Trax

Danny Rubin, Hapoel Kazrin, lost to Maccabi HH 81-83 with the Danny playing 32 minutes, scoring 13 points and pulling down 3 rebounds, handing out 3 assists and making a steal.

Darion Atkins, UVA basketball (UNDEFEATED), continued on their winning streak by beating Georgia Tech 57-28 (talk about defense) Darion started against the Yellow Jackets. In 21minutes he had 5 points, and a game high 8 rebounds. The Wahoos beat VaTech 50-47 in a comeback. Darion in 35 minutes had 9 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal.

Joe McDonald, GWU basketball, continued on its 4 game winning streak. The Colonials beat the Fordham Rams 79-59. In that away game, Joe played 32 minutes, scored 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. In GWU’s homecoming they beat Duquesne 74-59. Joe started played 21 minutes, had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Chris Hudnut, Colby basketball, beat Maine Maritime 86-74. Chris had 13 minutes, 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal. Against NESCAC foe Bowdoin, the Mules lost 65-68 at home. Chris started, played 36 minutes, scored 19 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, handed out 3 assists and 1steal.


Bear Ice Trax

A Landon Alum is on the Hobey Baker Ballot. For those who are hockey mavens, the award is considered the Heisman Trophy for hockey. Sam Anas is currently among the top 15 (down from 10 last week) of the 50 nominated.

Sam Anas, Quinnipiacthe Bobcats had the week off.

Max Greenwald, Middlebury, tied Bowdoin 2-2 with Max starting in the overtime game. Then the Panthers beat Colby 4-3 in o/t again. Max added another assist.

Nick Malone, Wesleyan, has played in a 1-3 loss to Tufts. He was not listed as playing in the next game, a loss.


Jack Barton, Northern Junior Cyclones, EHL, had a win and a loss in the last week, but no statistics are published.

Chris Javens, Odessa Jackalopes, is now listed as inactive.


Mike Anderson, Princeton Hockey Club played Seton Hall 10-1 but no individual results are listed.

Matt Coster, Cornell, no access to the team’s website.

Orlando Arevalo, MIT There are no reports for the last few games.


Bear Track Trax

Oliver Hightower, Kenyon Lords competed at the North Coast Athletic Conference Quad Meet at the College of Wooster Saturday afternoon. From the Lords’ website: “Oliver Hightower had Kenyon’s best individual finish turning in a runner-up performance in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.50”.  Mac Hightower, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ Stags first run on February 6.

Deion Wellington, Coastal Carolina’s Chanticleers in the 2015 Bob Pollock Classic at Clemson. Deion ran to a 5th place in the 400 meters with a 50.31 and helped his teammates to a 1st in the 4×400 meters relay .. Are there other Bears running winter track?

Swimming and Diving

Jordan Gear, USC, participated in the Bruin Dive last weekend. No results have been published yet.

John Freeman, Williams, beat MIT and then beat Middlebury. John swam in the 400 yd. medley relay which placed 3rd and came in 6th in the 500 yd. freestyle (4:51.26)

 It may be a while until another BearSportsNews Sunday Edition will be published. An operation, more correctly the prescriptions that are required afterwards, limit the abilities to research and write lucidly. Hopefully, all will be fully functional soon.
