Landon Hockey 10 Walt Whitman 1

The Bears face a tough up-coming three games @ DeMatha, @ Calvert Hall (which broke the Purple Eagles’ undefeated streak) and @ Gonzaga; so Coach Farnstrom brought up two skaters (JV top scorers–Hayes Cusick and Owen Concannon [brother of the Varsity goalie]) to add to the manpower available and reduce the starters’ playing time against neighbor Walt Whitman. The result was a 10-1 victory in which the sophomore and freshman contributed three points to the scoring.

Recent Landon games have been notable or the quick, aggressive skating challenging the opponents with forechecks and backchecks. On Wednesday night, the Bears were a little passive. The home team’s tempo picked up for the last five minutes of the 1st period. Then within 0:44, the home team scored three times:

  • Goal by Alex Norwinski from Nico Kenary and Matt Wellington @ 4:50
  • Goal by Michael Soraci from Hayes Cusick @ 4:20 [Hayes carried the puck up the ice from his defensive end, shot and watched his linemate beat the WWHS goalie] and
  • Goal by Hayes from Owen Concannon and Michael @4:04

At the end of the 1st period, the Bears had put 13 shots on goal and Jack Concannon had 5 saves.

Bears 3 Vikings 0

The next fifteen minutes were marked by 6 Bear shots and 1 save by Jack. With about thirty seconds left in this second stanza, Patrick Giles fired a slapshot at the goalie. Colton Rupp was in front of the WWHS net and shot the puck at the Viking goalie. That effort did not score, but the disc sat between the goalie pads and could be seen by the referees; so the Bear Captain pushed the puck the remaining 18” for a goal @ 0:20.0.

Bears 4 Vikings 0

For the last period, Coach Farnstrom put Tommy Mottur in the nets and he made three saves.

Tommy Crittenberger put a biscuit in the basket with help from his buddy Colton @ 10:36. The Vikings scored at 9:53 on a very short shot at 8:56 while the Landon players were skating a man short due to a penalty. The Bears responded with five goals:

  • Goal by Michael from Colton and Tommy @ 8:10
  • Goal by Jones Lindner from Drennan Greene and Drew Wellington, nice tic-tac-toe pass sequence @ 7:53
  • Goal by Jones unassisted @ 4:01
  • Goal by Trevor Wolf @ 3:49, and
  • Goal by Colton from Brian Jordan @0:38.6

Fourteen Landon boys were listed in the scorebook with at least a G and/or an A next to their name.

Beat the Stags at Laurel on the Laurel on the 16th at 4pm.
