Here’s a bunch of information about Bears everywhere:

  • Darion receives some publicity and in the two games of this week started and contributed big in the #3 UVa’s wins
  • Joe and the Colonials split their games
  • Chris and his Mules won three and he was prominent in all box scores
  • Danny earns another win.

» Hockey—

  • Sam is nominated for the prestigious HOBEY BAKER TROPHY (VOTE) and has two wins,
  • Max started in a win (assist put the game into O/T) and a loss
  • Jack’s team on, he’s on the active roster, but unclear if he did play
  • Chris team had a loss.

 

 

 

Varsity Wrestling

Though there is no available official information, chatter on Facebook seems to indicate that the Bears beat Georgetown Prep. It was a three team meet at Landon, but no news (even informal) about the other teams.

 

Varsity Basketball

The Bears lost to Prep 72-62 with Aaron Byrd scoring 25 points. Then they lost to the Heights 66-58 and Aaron led the Bears with 31 points, 13 from the foul line.

Varsity Hockey 

The Bears had a successful week with a win over Archbishop Spaulding 8-1 and then beat StA at their house 2-0

Bear Hoops Trax

Danny Rubin, Hapoel Kazrin, beat Ramat Hasharon 86-68 behind Danny’s 29 minutes, 10 points and 3 rebounds.

Darion Atkins, UVA basketball, was the subject of an interview and an article, the theme of which is that #5 is going to play a bigger role in the UVA Defense, the bedrock of Coach Bennett’s game strategy.

The big man started against ACC rival NC State in a 61-51 home victory. In 17 minutes he had 4 points, 8 rebounds and a block. The Cavaliers went to South Bend to play the #13 Notre Dame team and Darion started, played 25 minutes, scored an UVa high 14 points (7 buckets/ 11 shots), game high 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. UND Coach Brey noted the offense of the UVA big men.

Joe McDonald, GWU basketball, earned a conference victory at St. Louis 75-72. Joe’s 31 minutes brought 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 2 steals. The Colonials’ six game winning streak ended in a road trip to LaSalle, 63-50. #23 started played 28 minutes, had 8 points and 4 rebounds.

Chris Hudnut, Colby basketball, beat Hussan 99-94, with Chris’ 35 minutes resulted in 26 points, 14 rebounds and 1 block. Against NESCAC foe Wesleyan, the Mules won a 82-80 road victory. Chris started, played 35 minutes, scored 21 points, pulled 8 rebounds, handed out 2 assists and 1 block. They traveled to Connecticut College for another league game. Colby won and Chris in 30 minutes put up a game high 24 points (including 11 for 11 from the foul line), 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

Bear Ice Trax

A Landon Alum is on the Hobey Baker Ballot. For those who are hockey mavens, the award is considered the Heisman Trophy for hockey. Sam Anas is currently among the top 10 of the 50 nominated. Sam Anas, Quinnipiacthe Bobcats had a good weekend with two ECAC wins 4-2 over RPI and 4-4 over Union. Against the Engineers, Sam had two assists (both PPs) and in the Dutchmen game he had an assist. In 22 games, the sophomore has 14 goals, 10 assists, 3 game winning goals and 24 points.

Max Greenwald, Middlebury, lost to Trinity 1- 3 with Max out for the 1st face-off. The Panthers then beat Wesleyan 3-2 in overtime with Max assisting on the tying goal forcing the extra period. Max is the team’s #3 in points with 9 assists

Jack Barton, Northern Junior Cyclones, EHL is listed on the roster and the Cyclones beat the wolves with no box score.

Chris Javens, Odessa Jackalopes, lost to Corpus Christi, 3-4 but Chris was not listed on the box score.

 

Mike Anderson, Princeton Hockey Club is off until January 17.

Matt Coster at Cornell, have not received access to the team’s website.

Bear Track Trax

Oliver Hightower’s Kenyon Lords will run on January 16 against OWU.

Mac Hightower’s Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ Stags first run on February 6.

Deion Wellington’ Coastal Carolina’s Chanticleers start January 23.
