Landon Lax 16 Potomac 6

The Bears travelled out to McLean to play a good Panther team which was missing several key parts. It was Landon’s 1st game this year on a grass field and the 2nd against a team coached by a Landon Alum, Ian Healey. The home team fought valiantly for two periods, but the visitors’ depth (every player on the roster who was not injured played, with maybe one exception). The final score was Bears 16 Panthers 6

[note: the scorekeeper’s station was ground level, thus limiting vision PLUS the pace of the 3rd and 4th Q was such that as a number was recorded, a yell came from the bench indicating another goal. There may be many, many errors. PLEASE feel free to correct me]

Coach Healey well prepared his charges and limited the Bears’ O in the 1st period. Sean O’Brien fed Jack Falk for a goal @ 4:54. Sean deked his defender, got his hands free and beat the PS goalie @ 1:41.

Jack Prutting started in goal and made 3 saves. Later Will Murty made 2 saves over his residency in the crease, and finally Stephen Bauer was inserted into the nets, shutting out the opposition.

END OF 1ST Q BEARS 2 PANTHERS 0

Peter Laco established his presence behind the goal feeding Taylor Valencia for a goal @ 11:12. With time expiring, Peter hit Zach Buller for goal # 4 @ 0:45.7. In between the Panthers scored twice.

This game involved a lot more than the starters. Early in the game, the Bears tested some of their untested players against the Panthers’ starters. From period 2 to 4, we saw significant play from second stringers and a number of others. Players who made a great ground ball pick up or set a nice pick or made an exceptional move to clear the ball or slid to take away an opponent’s advantage or took the right D or O position to make the team concept work. In numerical order (and not mentioning those who contributed an A or G), they included—Leo Falcone, Kyle Hartman, Max Menkes, Paul Padalino, Aidan Kelso, Taylor Trumbower, Tom Evans, Kolby Williams, Tom Evans, Will Buckingham, PJ Fitzgerald and Stephen Bauer.

HALFTIME BEARS 4 PANTHERS 2

The visitors jumped on the home team, scoring 3 goals in the first three minutes—Valencia from O’Brien @ 11:05, Laco to Sam Lynch @ 10:23 and Sam Gansler to Valencia @ 9:44. The Panthers got their 3rd goal at 8:31, but that inspired the Bears to bring another 4 goals in less than 4 minutes—O’Brien to Jack Bolen @ 6:43; Laco recorded his 3rd assist on a pass to Sean @ 6:26, Sean alone on a goal @ 2:59 and finally Rob Adkins solo @ 2:29 [see how an input error may have occurred!]

This offensive surge may have been aided by the Bear X men. With Jason Murphy letting his aches from recent battles heal, Jarrett Witzel was 9/11 and Sam Offutt added another five wins on face-offs.

END OF 3RD Q BEARS 11 PANTHERS 3

Within the first two minutes of the last twelve minutes, the Bears upped their margin to + 11 with pass from Rob Adkins connecting with Mike Rallo  and soon thereafter Zac Buller nailed score another @ 11:17.Over the next few minutes, the home team’s first line players earned three goals (one and EMO goal). In numerical ascendancy, #27 Rob fed #28 Sam Offutt @ 5:24. Mr. Offutt added another goal @ 2:39 followed by Adkins feeding Riley McTague for the 16th goal.

FINAL SCORE BEARS 15 PANTHERS 6
