LANDON HOCKEY 7 RP 2

Beating a rival 11-2 (https://bearsportsnews.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/landon-hockey-11-rp-2/ ) makes it certain that the next game will be different and the rematch against the boys from Rockville Pike was just that — the little Hoyas played a much better game, but still lost 7-2 to the Bears.

The home team attacked from the drop of the opening puck and Michael Soraci broke into scoring column with only 0:59 expired B 1 lH 0 @14:01. The Bears controlled the play for much of the remainder of the period. The little Hoyas battled constantly and were able to equal the score at 3:41Michael Magnarelli from Michal Roche and #20 B 1 lH 1. Unfortunately, the RP line-up as officially listed on the scorecard had no #20 and when the referees learned that omission between periods, they penalized the visitors for that rules violation.

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 1 little HOYAS 1

The visitors were able to fend off that penalty, but the Bears were able to take an advantage @9:32 when Alex Nowinski passed to defensive pair Brian Jordan who teed the puck from the Blue Line and exploded towards the RP goal. Whilst traveling toward the opponent’s goal, its path JunMo Kim altered it direction into space not occupied by the lH goalies. B 2  lH 1

Riley Backstoe, the RP #20 heretofore missing from the score book, scored an unassisted goal @ 6:03 for the last RP score of the night. B 2  lH 2

As the clock rolled to four minutes remaining in the second period, Landon exploded. Jones Lindner had a breakaway and deposited the biscuit in the basket @3:52 B 3 lH 2. The visiting net minder had barely recovered from the last Bear assault when a trio of Landon skaters reappeared. The offensive pattern began with an assist from Graham Shue who passed to Jones who slid it to JunMo for a goal ten seconds later @3:42 B 4 lH 2. Less than a minute later @ 2:09 another goal was deposited in the Bear Bank; this time it was a 2 on 1 break with Tommy Crittenberger driving down ice towards the RP goal and finding his line mate John Wellington for THE 5TH GOAL B 5 lH 2

END OF 2ND  PERIOD BEARS 5 little HOYAS 2

The RP skaters fought back with energy and enthusiasm, outshooting the Landon boys 18 to 14, but for naught. San Kroll was tested throughout and recorded 39 saves over three periods. The defensive pairs of Jack Sears / Jack Barton  and Alex Norwinski/Brian Jordan repelled the RP attacks on a regular basis with skill, speed and strength.

Five minutes into the last period in the midst of the little Hoyas’ attempt at a comeback, Will Buckingham rushed the puck into the Bears’ O zone and as the RP D committed to him, the Assistant Captain deftly moved the puck to Tommy for a seventh goal @ 10:03 B 6 lH 2.

With only 2:24 remaining Campbell Blue’s efforts resulted in a break away and a nice goal B 7 lH 2
