Bullis 62 Landon 52

The defending IAC hoops champions may have come to Riddleberger Gym expecting an easy contest. The Bulldogs recently swept through the Junior Orange Bowl beating a previously undefeated team and the Florida Tournament’s last year champion. The Potomac School includes guard going to Holy Cross nest year and a 6’10” center with an offer to DePaul. The Bears proved to be a tough opponent, taking an early lead, but failing to hold onto their advantage over the last quarters. FINAL SCORE BULLDOGSs 62 BEARs 52. 

The home team played an aggressive man-to-man perimeter defense and created a number of opportunities, which they converted—Marshall Peters put up a quick 9 points with buckets from Jordan Marshall and Kolby Williams. The Landon boys also were successful on the boards over these first 8 minutes. At one time the Bears led 11-3 and at the end of the period they held a 16-12 lead. 

Coach Luther changed the Bear D to a zone and grew their edge to 23-15 on baskets by Kahleef Bradford, Tumi Onaghise and Jordan. The visitors fought back and with 4 points in the last 60 seconds, the Bulldogs took a one point lead, 31-30, at half. 

While they did not score, Clayton Collins, Kurt Gessler and Matthew Perlmutter brought the ball up the court under pressure, moved it in the Landon Offense, played solid defense and contributed important minutes. Harry Laird started the game, played staunch defense, rebounded and hustled all over the court.

The 1st three minutes of the next quarter saw the Landon team reassert themselves, earning a 38-31 lead at 5:02 from buckets by Kahleef, Jordan and Kolby. With less than 2 minutes remaining, the Bulldogs took a lead on two three’s, two foul shots and three baskets. End of 2nd period, Bullis 47 Landon 42 

During the 4th quarter the Bears kept the margin to five points, but at 1:10 remaining, the Bulldogs had two buckets and three foul shots while they defended against the home team, limiting them to 0 points over that time. FINAL SCORE BULLIS 62 LANDON 52
