BEAR SPORTS NEWS—summer reading

As the first day of school fast approaches and the boys are furiously reading those books that they avoided all summer, it’s appropriate to share some updates on Landon sports.

As of today, last year’s very successful Water Polo team is churning the Dixon Pool. Hopefully, having watched the NBC coverage of the Olympic Water Polo competition, the Bear swimmers learned some new tricks in addition to Coach Bartman’s excellent techniques.

The Varsity and JV Football aspirants, some 80 or so in number, spent several hours getting their equipment, learning some of their offensive sets/moves and running around on Triplett Field. Post practice, Coach Padalino introduced the two teams’ coaching staffs to the parents and explained his football philosophy. The Bears’ first game is August 31 against Bishop McNamara at 4pm. For more information (although DCSports Fan’s writing sometimes is equal parts journalism and fiction) about the Mustangs, go to  WCAC’s 2011 version was impressive in terms of size and talented, but the Bears prevailed 29-14( .

One of the goals of BSN is to chronicle the accomplishments of the boys as athletes and as students. The recent announcement of the 2012-2013 Student Council was an example of how these boys contribute in every aspect of their school and in the community. Many of the below Student Council leaders are also exceptional performers in their athletic endeavors:

          Upper School Student Council

President: Graham Shue ’13

Form VI President: Marshall Peters
Form VI Representatives: Jackson Howard, Isaiah Edwards

Form V President: Nicky Talwar
Form V Representatives: Kebron Sawhny, Robbie Hefferon

Form IV President: Matt Wellington
Form IV Representatives: Julius Kindfuller, Louis Tanous

Form III Class President: Jack Concannon
Form III Representatives: Emmanuel Engermann, Brian Jordan

Advisor: John Bellaschi
