BEARS’ FENCERS GROWING IN SKILLS AND EARN EXCITING VICTORY OVER GONZAGA

The team has 12 boys with a mixture of beginners, a few seasoned and some vets who fence in outside clubs.

The Bears have fenced Georgetown Prep twice with victories with both the varsity and the JV in both meetings. We have also fenced Gonzaga twice with JV victories in both matches and a very close victory for our varsity team on Monday.

In their most recent victory at Gonzaga, Seth Flanagan had the final bout and needed to overcome a 37-39 deficit. He brought the match to 43-44. The fencing rules end the bout at 45 points. He then had an amazing under the hand touch to tie the bout and go into overtime with 1 minute left. Then with only 10 seconds left, Seth got the winning touch! It was a very exciting victory.

Overall they have had a great season, there are not very many teams in the area- mainly Gonzaga and Prep- but the boys work hard and have a great time with Fencing
