Bear Bites– ALL MET HOCKEY and Hoops plus Lacrosse

All Met Hoops

For the second year in a row, Joe McDonald was named FIRST TEAM ALL MET, a well deserved honor:

All Met Hockey

Congratulations to the Bears who were named to the WaPo All Met players and the Hockey Coach of the Year.

Matt Potolicchio and Max Greenwald  were named to the 1st team:

                        F Matt Potolicchio

Landon / Sr.

Two-time All-Met paced a Bears attack with 22 goals and 32 assists, captaining the area’s top team to back-to-back MAPHL titles. Video

D/F Max Greenwald

Landon / Sr.

Versatile two-way player keyed a defense that allowed 1.6 goals per game. Had 21 goals and 17 assists.

The WaPo Coach of the year was, most deservedly, Chan Gammill:

Chandler Gammill | Landon

Coach of the year

Ninth-year coach led the Bears to a 19-2 record and a second consecutive Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League championship. Over the past two seasons, Gammill guided Landon to a 40-2-1 mark and back-to-back season-ending No. 1 rankings, establishing the Bears as the preeminent program in the area.

Also recognized, but understating his contributions to Landon (the WaPo picks have a  lot to do with selling subscriptions; so distribution of honors are required), was Conor Meike, as second team All Met.

Equally egregious in under ranking was the selection of a goalie who outdueled the WaPo PoY in the IAC championship game, Sam Kroll, as Honorable mention.

One of the special events every year is the parade of Bear alumni lacrosse players on the field after the varsity plays. THIS YEAR THE GAME IS ON FRIDAY MAY 4 AFTER THE GONZAGE GAME. The past players have included All ACC, All Ivy, All Patriot, etc. league players. They may not still possess the 4.3 speed or the 100 mile an hour shots, but the enthusiasm is always evident.

PLAYERS ARE NEEDED, please email George Pappas at Include your preferred position, approximate height and weight and your health care plan insurance number.

Nice opportunity to relax and meet other Bear alumni!

Date: Saturday, April 14

Time: 4:30p.m. or after lacrosse game

Location: Farmhouse

RSVP to Amory Barnes at or 301-320-1007.

Bullis 7 Landon 6

All but one of Landon’s losses have been by a single goal and at the end of each game, the Bears scored multiple times to have a chance to tie. This game fit the same pattern.
